  • Understanding the principles of defending
  • Understanding the principles of attacking 
  • Individual and small group defending - Teaching the 1st, 2nd and 3rd defender
  • Zonal Defending
  • Teaching midfielders correct defensive shape
  • Building out of the back
  • Possession and combination play
  • Switching the point of attack

LEVEL 4 - 12 HOURS OF TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION

  • Understanding the principles of defending
  • Understanding the principles of attacking 
  • Dribbling technique - Running with the ball, changing direction and shielding
  • Passing technique - Fundamentals of all passing techniques and surfaces
  • Shooting and finishing made easy
  • Controlling technique - Improving 1st touch on the ground and out of the air
  • Individual defending techniques of the 1st defender
  • Technical and tactical considerations in small sided games

 

All Age Modules:

US Coaches Club has identified 5 phases of the game in both attacking and defending, in which coaches must thoroughly understand in order to be efficient at teaching the game.

All modules are offered in any system of play.

Defending -

  • Phase 1 - Functional traning 
    • Defending from the front - Making play predictable, when to press and when to drop
  • Phase 2 - Functional Training
    • Defending in the Middle third - Centrally and in wide areas
  • Phase 3 - Functional Training
    • Defending in the back third - Centrally and in wide areas
  • Phase 4 - Phase of play training
    • Forwards and Midfielders defending zonally
  • Phase 5 - Phase of play training
    • Midfielders and defenders defending zonally
  • Zonal Defending - Shifting as a team to prevent penetrating passes
  • Zonal Defending - Small group defending - Teaching roles of 1st, 2nd and 3rd defender
  • Team Zonal Defending
    • 7 v 7
    • 9 v 9
    • 11 v 11
  • Zonal Defending with a 3 back system and a 4 back system. Utilizing the #6, #7 and #11
  • Defending as a team - centrally and in wide areas
  • Difference between man marking and zonal defending 
  • NEW METHODOLOGY - Training players to play a mx of man and zone which will increase your teams possession percentage

Attacking - 

  • Phase 1 (Defensive 3rd) - Functional training
    • Building the ball out of the back
  • Phase 2 - Transitioning from Phase 1 (Back third) to Phase 3 (Midfield third) - Phase of play training
  • Phase 3 (Midde third) - Functional training
    • Various ways to penetrate and maintain possession
    • Utilizing your #6 and #8 and full backs
  • Phase 4 - Transitioning from Phase 3 (Middle 3rd) to Phase 5  (attacking 3rd)  - Phase of play training
    • Introducing your #10, #7 and #11
  • Phase 5 - Playing in attacking third (Phase 5) - Functional training
    • Linking up with #9
  • Mids and forwards combining - Phase of play training
  • Direct versus Indirect – Various cues players must understand - Tactical progressive

  4. Coaching Technique:  Heading and tackling - teaching it the right way

  7. Planning an effective practice session                 
  8. Technical and tactical considerations when coaching small sided games (SSGs)                    
  9. Exploit your opponents: Coaching combination play, overload situations and creativity in the final third          
  10. Developing effective defending habits as individuals and in small groups                  
  11. Soccer Specific Conditioning - integrated daily for maximum enjoyment and success
